The View Tube cafe is the same but different – thank you for your continued support

14 November 2017

What’s happened?

In March 2017 we were delighted that Mark Sciberras and his team opened a new cafe at the View Tube. With his experience at The Common E2 in Bethnal Green, Mark persuaded us that he was the right operator to take the cafe at the View Tube forward, retaining its community ethos while introducing a focus on quality too. Since then, there have been some great innovations at the site: the food and coffee have been amazing and there were some great outdoor events over the summer. Nevertheless, this month there was a friendly parting of ways, with Mark looking to put more time into his architecture practice and his Bethnal Green cafe.

So who runs the cafe now?

Poplar HARCA, the organisation which is responsible for all the View Tube (including the artist studios, the bike shop, the gardens and the social enterprise office), has taken over direct responsibility for the cafe. We have been involved at the View Tube for several years – we are committed to the site and its role as a community venue with a difference on the edge of the Olympic Park. We love the cafe, the diverse range of people it attracts and the friendly, unique feel it has developed, while serving the highest quality food and drink in the local area.

What does the View Tube cafe stand for now?

  • A 7-days-a-week community cafe and a great weekend brunch and event venue
  • High quality coffee
  • All food cooked fresh on site (other than the bread and some of the snacks!)
  • An escape from the hustle and bustle of Stratford, Hackney Wick and Bow

What does the short term situation look like? When is the cafe open?

Building up the team of baristas, chefs and KPs is our top priority. We’re delighted that Gabby and Ben are continuing to work at the cafe, to ensure we keep serving great food and coffee.

With a slight shortfall of supervisors and chefs, we anticipate a slightly reduced service for the next couple of weeks.

As this situation is continually changing as the team firms up, we will keep this public calendar updated. This will always reflect the most up to date information about the cafe’s opening hours.

On the current information, we are therefore anticipating a great 7-days-a-week hot food and drink offering being back up and running by Wednesday 22nd November

What’s happening around the corner?

We anticipate being out of this interim period very soon and then we’re excited about making the cafe even better over the coming months.

Look out for things like:

  • Consistent Monday-Friday meal deals
  • A loyalty card
  • Easy and open routes to give feedback
  • A Christmas event involving the cafe and the artist studios on Sat 16th December… more details to follow!

As always, our door is open. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch by contacting Ted Maxwell from Dot Dot Dot (ted.maxwell@dotdotdotproperty.com), who is based upstairs at the View Tube and is helping us to improve the View Tube.
