Story of the View Tube Cafe

We love our cafe at the the View Tube , we attract a loyal following of regulars as well as visitors who love our urban oasis/ garden character, community angle, and great quality homemade café food. Our current head chef Ben is leaving to go travelling – we’re fortunate to have had his creativity and charm on site, as he has devised a great menu! The café is a social enterprise and we are proud of our friendly welcome to regulars who include volunteers, families, cyclists and artists.

We have a great location overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, located within a network of riverside paths and other green routes.

In future we are looking to branch out into business to business sales, and new indoor and outdoor events.

Our cafe / restaurant seats around 60 people. We are quieter during the week and serve up to 200 covers per day on weekend days. Our unique propositions are: high quality café food and drink, welcoming family and community feel, served at affordable prices to a cross-section of the community

The role

We’re looking for a great Chef at the View Tube Cafe, someone who is excited by the venue and maintaining our successful quality family café style menu as well as building on our unique propositions: high quality home made café food and drink, welcoming family and community feel, served at affordable prices to a cross-section of the community

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Deliver our menu to high quality, and deliver occasional high quality innovations that would suit our customers
  • Work well as a vital part of the team
  • Communicate well and manage relationships with our suppliers,
  • Manage food costings and meet budget requirements,
  • Consistently meet local HACCP requirements,

Person experience

  • You will be able to demonstrate a good all around approach to running a successful cafe / restaurant kitchen
  • You will have been a chef in a restaurant, cafe or bakery for at least two years
  • You must have sufficient food hygiene certification

Reports to :

  • The Cafe General Manager

Person attributes

  • You are used to working effectively under pressure in a busy kitchen to deliver quality food as needed, and able to do so in a way that is respectful to colleagues and welcoming to customers (the kitchen is next to the dining area).
  • Good team skills are key; you work well with the team to deliver a quality product together, and support the great friendly atmosphere.

  • A wage of £11 per hour
  • 25 days holiday plus public holidays.
